BREAKING: Supreme Court Sacks Abure as Labour Party Chairman

The Supreme Court has ruled that Julius Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party. The ruling, delivered on Friday, came from a five-member panel of justices who unanimously overturned an earlier decision by the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which had recognized Abure as the party’s leader.

The Supreme Court stated that the Court of Appeal lacked the authority to decide on the leadership dispute, as it was an internal matter of the party. The justices noted that legal intervention in party leadership issues goes beyond the judiciary’s jurisdiction.

Additionally, the court ruled in favor of an appeal filed by Senator Esther Usman and another party member, stating that their case had merit. The judgment also noted that Abure’s tenure had already come to an end, making any claims of his leadership position invalid.

As a result, the Supreme Court dismissed a cross-appeal that had been submitted by Abure’s faction of the Labour Party.
