BREAKING: Tinubu Gives Ex-INEC Chairman Jega New Appointment

President Bola Tinubu has appointed former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, as the Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of the Presidential Livestock Reforms.

The appointment was made public through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy. Onanuga announced the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday night.

Onanuga wrote, “President Bola Tinubu appoints Professor Attahiru Jega as Presidential Adviser and Coordinator of Presidential Livestock Reforms.”

Jega, who served as INEC Chairman from 2010 to 2015, is well known for his role in overseeing Nigeria’s 2015 general elections, which led to the country’s first democratic transfer of power from one political party to another.

His new role as an adviser focuses on addressing challenges in Nigeria’s livestock sector. This comes months after Tinubu established the Ministry of Livestock Development to tackle issues related to livestock management and the long-standing conflict between farmers and herders.

The newly created ministry was given the responsibility of finding solutions to the persistent clashes between nomadic herders and farmers. These conflicts, which have spanned decades, have resulted in numerous violent incidents, affecting lives and the agricultural sector.
