Two individuals were rescued after a building under construction collapsed in the heart of Lagos Island on Monday afternoon. The incident took place on Agarawu Street, near the Aroloya Central Mosque in Idumota, Lagos Island.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that the agency received an emergency call about the incident at approximately 2:16 p.m. The call, made through the 767 and 112 emergency toll-free lines, prompted a swift response from LASEMA’s team stationed at their Lekki base.
Upon arriving at the scene, emergency responders discovered that a storey building, still under construction, had collapsed. Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, provided further details in a statement, explaining that the building had “self-collapsed.” He also noted that two adult men were pulled from the rubble and received immediate first aid treatment by the LRU Pre-Hospital Care Unit.
“As at the time of filing this report, no additional casualties had been reported,” Oke-Osanyintolu added. Emergency teams worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of those involved, with law enforcement agencies securing the area to prevent further incidents.
