Tottenham Hotspur advanced to the semi-finals of the League Cup after defeating Manchester United 4-3 in an exhilarating quarter-final clash.
Dominic Solanke’s impressive performance, including a brace, proved crucial in securing Spurs’ victory, keeping their hopes alive for a first trophy since 2008.
The match began with high energy, and Solanke opened the scoring for Tottenham in the first half. Moments into the second half, Dejan Kulusevski extended the lead with a goal just 46 seconds after the restart.
Solanke then added his second in the 54th minute, seemingly putting Spurs in a comfortable position with a 3-0 advantage.
However, the drama was far from over. Tottenham’s backup goalkeeper, Fraser Forster, made two costly mistakes that allowed Manchester United to claw back into the game.
Substitute Joshua Zirkzee capitalized on an intercepted pass from Forster, scoring United’s first goal. Shortly after, Amad Diallo blocked Forster’s clearance and made it 3-2, creating a tense atmosphere with 20 minutes still to play.
With the game hanging in the balance, Tottenham captain Son Heung-Min delivered a vital fourth goal directly from a corner in the 88th minute, silencing Manchester United’s protests. Though Jonny Evans scored a header in stoppage time for United, it wasn’t enough to deny Spurs the win.
The defeat marked Manchester United’s third loss under manager Ruben Amorim, who now faces increasing pressure to stabilize the team.
