The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a 41-year-old foreign national, Elie Bitar, wanted over allegations of fraud involving a cryptocurrency trading platform known as Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX).
The Commission made this known in a public notice issued on Tuesday, calling on members of the public to assist with information that could lead to his arrest.
According to the EFCC, Bitar is suspected of playing a major role in a crypto investment scheme that has left many Nigerians counting their losses. The fraudulent activities were allegedly carried out through CBEX, an online platform that lured investors with promises of fast and high returns from cryptocurrency trading.
“The public is hereby notified that ELIE BITAR, whose photograph appears above, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for fraud allegedly perpetrated on an online trading platform called Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX),” the notice stated.
The EFCC notes that Bitar’s last known address is located at Eng. George Enemoh Crescent in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. Authorities believe he may have gone into hiding after the fraudulent scheme was uncovered.
