Chelsea Grab Big 4-1 Win Over Djurgarden in Conference League Semis

Chelsea strolled to an impressive 4-1 away win over Swedish club Djurgarden in the first leg of the UEFA Conference League semi-final, putting themselves in a strong position to reach the final of the competition.

The match, played at Stockholm’s 3Arena on May 1, 2025, saw Chelsea take early control and maintain their grip throughout. The English side, led by manager Enzo Maresca, made light work of a depleted Djurgarden squad who were forced to field just 14 senior players due to injuries.

Jadon Sancho opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 12th minute after calmly finishing from inside the box. His shot deflected off Djurgarden defender Marcus Danielson’s arm and into the net, giving the visitors an early edge.

The goal helped Chelsea settle into the match, as they adapted to the artificial pitch and quickly began to dominate proceedings.

Just before the break, Noni Madueke added Chelsea’s second. After shaping up to shoot across goal with his stronger left foot, he instead curled a clever effort inside the near post with a composed first-time strike.

Djurgarden nearly pulled one back just before half-time, but Chelsea’s Swedish-born goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen reacted well to tip a deflected shot from Tokmac Nguen behind for a corner.

Nicolas Jackson sealed the result in the second half with two quick goals. He tapped in Chelsea’s third in the 59th minute following a defensive error, and fired home a powerful left-footed shot from the edge of the area just six minutes later to make it 4-0.

The home crowd finally had something to cheer in the 68th minute when teenager Isak Alemayehu Mulugeta scored a strong header for his first-ever senior goal, giving Djurgarden a late consolation.

Chelsea’s commanding win means they are now strong favourites to advance to the final in Wroclaw on May 28. The London club is seeking to add a new European trophy to its already impressive collection, which includes Champions League, Europa League, and Cup Winners’ Cup titles.

Meanwhile, in the other semi-final, Spanish club Real Betis hold a narrow 2-1 advantage over Italian side Fiorentina after a competitive first leg in Andalusia. The second legs of both semi-finals are scheduled for next Thursday.
