Chelsea Narrow Gap to Liverpool with Hard-Fought 2-1 Victory Over Brentford

Chelsea secured a crucial 2-1 win over Brentford at Stamford Bridge on December 15, 2024, bringing them within two points of Premier League leaders Liverpool. The victory marks Chelsea’s fifth consecutive win and strengthens their position as serious contenders in this season’s title race.

The home side dominated the first half, creating numerous chances as Brentford struggled to cope with Chelsea’s pace and pressing. The breakthrough came just before halftime when Noni Madueke delivered a pinpoint cross from the right. Marc Cucurella rose above the defense to nod the ball into the net, giving Chelsea a deserved lead.

In the second half, Chelsea continued to control possession but had to wait until the 80th minute to extend their lead. Nicolas Jackson capitalized on a defensive lapse, confidently slotting the ball past the Brentford goalkeeper. Brentford, however, refused to go down without a fight. Star forward Bryan Mbeumo pulled one back for the visitors with a well-taken goal in the dying minutes, but Chelsea held firm to claim all three points.

With Arsenal and Manchester City faltering in recent weeks, Chelsea appears to be Liverpool’s main challengers for the title. Meanwhile, Tottenham continued their unpredictable campaign with a resounding 5-0 win against Brighton, and Crystal Palace eased relegation worries by defeating Brighton 3-1 in the early kick-off.
