Arsenal legend Paul Merson has offered his insights on how Chelsea should structure their attack for the upcoming season under the guidance of manager Enzo Maresca.
Merson, known for his deep football knowledge and straightforward opinions, has identified four players he believes are crucial for Chelsea’s offensive strategy: Cole Palmer, Christopher Nkunku, Joao Felix, and Nicolas Jackson.
Merson’s comments came in response to Chelsea’s latest transfer move, which saw Joao Felix joining the team from Atletico Madrid. Felix’s arrival marks Chelsea’s tenth signing of the summer, with the deal reportedly costing around £44.5 million.
Merson suggested that Felix should be positioned behind Nicolas Jackson in the attacking setup, as he is expected to generate numerous scoring opportunities for the Senegalese forward.
In his tweet on X, Merson stated, “Felix behind Jackson, will create a lot of chances for Jackson which is what we need. Palmer and Nkunku either side.” This arrangement, according to Merson, would maximize the attacking potential of Chelsea by utilizing Felix’s creative abilities to support Jackson’s goal-scoring efforts, with Palmer and Nkunku providing additional support on the wings.
