The Minister of Works David Umahi has said that any attempt by opposition parties to form a coalition against President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election is destined to fail. Umahi, who spoke on Sunday at the official flag-off of the Abuja-Kano highway reconstruction project, stated that the coalition lacks direction and has no real plan to offer Nigerians.
According to Umahi, critics of the current government are not backing up their complaints with useful suggestions.
He said, “Let me advise the so-called coalition or opposition. When you are in opposition, you are doing constructive opposition, not destructive ones. You have to provide an alternative to what you are criticising.
“Talk is cheap and the job is very easy when you are not the one doing it. Opposition is to provide alternatives. I have never seen any opposition providing an alternative over anything. But I want to thank God for the President.
“The Fitch financial institution, just a few days ago, said the reforms of Mr President are working. They say Nigeria, financially, is upgraded. The World Bank also said so. So, who is the opposition that darkens counsel without knowledge? Nigeria is working. The worst is over. God is with us and will take us to the promised land. Those in support, say Amen.”
“And I want to assure you my governor, that I am also a prophet. It was only David who was a prophet and priest and God has told me that President Bola Tinubu will do eight years; Governor Uba Sani will do eight years,” he said.
He said his ministry would begin a nationwide tour from May 1 to report on completed and ongoing road projects under the current administration. According to Umahi, these visits will allow Nigerians in every region to see what has been done so far. He claimed Tinubu’s road projects are being built to last as long as 100 years without requiring maintenance.
Meanwhile, Kano State Governor Uba Sani, who represented President Tinubu at the ceremony, described the 282km road project as a vital link between Abuja and northern states. He said the new road would bring economic growth, job creation, and improved security.
“The reconstruction of this road will undoubtedly bring the much-needed relief and development to our communities,” Sani said. He recalled his efforts as a senator to advocate for the road’s repair and thanked the federal government for finally acting on it.
He also credited National Security Adviser Malam Nuhu Ribadu for improving safety along the route. “With the non-kinetic approach of tackling insecurity bearing fruit, motorists can now ply the road at any time of the day without fear of being attacked,” the governor said.
