Communal Clash: Osun Governor Imposes Stricter Curfew on Ifon, Ilobu

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has imposed a stricter curfew on the Ifon and Ilobu communities following a renewed outbreak of violence. The new curfew, which runs from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, replaces the previous 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. restriction.

The decision was announced in a statement by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, in Osogbo on Friday. He said the curfew aims to prevent further violence between the two communities in Orolu and Irepodun Local Government Areas.

“Following a resurgence of the crisis between Ifon and Ilobu communities, Gov. Ademola Adeleke, in a move to curb its further spread, has announced a new curfew time frame from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. daily, until lasting peace is restored,” he said.

Governor Adeleke also expressed deep disappointment over the renewed crisis and urged all residents to embrace peace.

Kolapo Alimi noted that the governor has instructed security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Police, and Civil Defence, to maintain 24-hour surveillance in the area. This measure, he said, is to ensure that law and order are maintained at all times.

“In addition, the governor directed that an immediate stakeholders’ meeting, including the Olufon of Ifon, the Olobu of Ilobu, and other stakeholders from both communities, be held tomorrow, Saturday, to discuss further resolutions of the conflict,” he said.
