Corruption-Free Nigeria Is Achievable, says EFCC Chair

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has stated that Nigeria has the ability to overcome corruption if citizens remain committed and work together.

Olukoyede made this statement in Abuja on Sunday while delivering his goodwill message to Muslims across the country in celebration of Eid-el-Fitr. He encouraged Nigerians to believe in their collective strength and determination to fight corruption.

“Tackling economic and financial crimes and other acts of corruption is achievable through courageous readiness and corporate commitments of Nigerians,” he stated.

He further noted that corruption cannot overpower the nation’s will to resist it. “Nigerians are stronger than corruption. No corrupt act can break our common resolve and determination. We have all it takes to confront and conquer economic and financial crimes,” he added.

The EFCC chairman urged Muslims to embrace the values of Ramadan—self-denial, discipline, sacrifice, love, and purity—and apply them in their daily lives to reject corruption. He called on Nigerians to use the spirit of Eid-el-Fitr as a time for reflection and renewal of their commitment to honesty and accountability.

“I congratulate Muslims and charge them to allow lessons of self-denial, discipline, sacrifice, love, and purity of the Ramadan season imbued in them greater readiness and commitment to shun corrupt practices,” he said.

He also spoke about the significance of Eid-el-Fitr, stating, “At Eid-el-Fitr, Allah’s benevolence and sacrifice are greatly magnified. May the lessons of love, peace, joy, and celebration of the festival abide in us and imbue in us a greater desire to reject corruption.”

Olukoyede reassured Nigerians that the EFCC remains dedicated to fighting corruption and is making steady progress in tackling economic and financial crimes.

“The anti-corruption war is on course, maintaining that the EFCC is gaining more strength and speed in bringing economic and financial crimes to a halt,” he said.
