Corruption Has Brought Nigeria To Its Knees, Says ICPC

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has raised alarm over the devastating impact of corruption on Nigeria’s progress. Speaking at an event in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to mark International Anti-Corruption Day, ICPC’s Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Mrs. Ekere Usiere, warned that the nation’s development is at risk if corruption remains unchecked.

Mrs. Usiere described corruption as a major obstacle to Nigeria’s economic and social growth. She stressed that the nation’s survival depends on the collective efforts of its citizens to expose and fight corrupt practices.

“There is no gainsaying that the scourge of corruption has brought Nigeria to its knees, from economic underdevelopment to socio-political decadence. If we don’t kill corruption, corruption will definitely kill Nigeria,” she stated.

The commissioner urged Nigerians to embrace whistleblowing as a powerful weapon against corruption, encouraging them to overcome fear and cultural barriers. “If you see something, you must say something. If you hear something, you must say something,” she added.

At the same event, Engr. Felix Omotsola Ogbe, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB), reiterated his organization’s commitment to fighting corruption. He highlighted the importance of educating the youth about the harmful effects of corruption on society.

“Today, we are marking and celebrating International Anti-Corruption Day, focusing on raising the consciousness of our youth about the ills of corruption and its impact on socio-economic development,” Ogbe remarked.
