Couple Arrested for Kidnapping Online Vendor in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a couple, Emmanuel and Mmesoma Okafor, for allegedly kidnapping an online vendor who went to deliver a product in the Iyana Ishashi area of Lagos.

During a press briefing on Monday, the command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, noted that the incident occurred on Sunday, March 9. The victim, whose name was not disclosed, had received an order and proceeded to the delivery location, not knowing she was walking into a trap.

Hundeyin explained that when the vendor arrived, she was lured inside the house, where she was forcefully dragged in by a man and a woman. The suspects, later identified as the Okafors, allegedly stripped her naked, assaulted her, and took nude photos of her.

“The victim received a request for a product and proceeded to the customer’s house in Iyana Ishashi. Upon arrival, the door was opened, and she was forcibly dragged inside by a man and a woman,” Hundeyin said.

The suspects then demanded a ransom of N2 million, threatening to leak the nude pictures online if she failed to pay. Fearing for her reputation, the victim managed to transfer N300,000 on the spot. She was then released with a warning that the pictures would be made public if she failed to provide the remaining amount.

After gaining her freedom, the vendor wasted no time in reporting the incident to the police. Investigators quickly launched a manhunt for the suspects, tracking their movements and gathering intelligence.

Their efforts paid off as Emmanuel and Mmesoma Okafor were arrested shortly after. “The suspects were tracked and arrested. They are currently in police custody as investigations continue,” Hundeyin added.
