Court Blocks Abia PDP from Suspending Wabara

An Abia State High Court in Obehie, Ukwa West Local Government Area, has halted the enforcement of the suspension of former Senate President and Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adolphus Wabara.

Justice L.T.C. Eruba issued the ruling on February 25, 2025, preventing the state leadership of the PDP, led by Abraham Amah, from carrying out the suspension.

A court order made available to journalists stated that the party must not enforce Wabara’s suspension or interfere with his position as BoT Chairman until a final decision is reached on the matter.

Wabara had filed a suit, identified as HUK/8/2025, challenging the suspension and seeking legal protection from any further action by the state PDP leadership.

In response to his request, the court ruled in his favor, stating, “The defendant is restrained from enforcing the suspension of the claimant/applicant from the Peoples Democratic Party or in any way affecting his position as the Chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP till the motion on notice is determined.”

The controversy began when Amah, a former Vice Chairman of the PDP in Abia North, announced Wabara’s suspension a few weeks ago in Umuahia.

Amah accused Wabara of anti-party activities after he praised Governor Alex Otti’s performance, particularly his efforts in reconstructing the long-neglected Port Harcourt Road in Aba. Wabara had stated that Otti had done well and deserved another term, a remark that the state PDP viewed as disloyalty to the party.

However, the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC) quickly intervened, declaring the suspension “null and void and of no effect.” The NWC argued that the action taken by the Abia PDP leadership violated the party’s constitution.
