Robert Ewa, the Cross River State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts, and Culture, has passed away. His death was confirmed by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nsa Gill, late Wednesday evening.
According to reports, Mr. Ewa was present at a state executive council meeting earlier that day, which was led by Governor Bassey Otu. He was actively involved in discussions during the meeting and even made contributions. However, shortly after, he excused himself.
Nsa Gill explained the sequence of events to journalists, saying, “Ewa died yesterday. He was present at the state executive council meeting. He even contributed during the presentation. A few minutes later, he excused himself, and I think his driver drove him to the clinic. So we never knew that he went to a hospital. So it was from the hospital that he went to, that news came back to the governor that he had died.”
Mr. Ewa reportedly passed away at the Arubah Specialist Hospital in Calabar, the state capital. His death came as a shock to Governor Bassey Otu and the entire state administration.
Ewa had a long history of public service in Cross River State. He previously served as the Secretary and later Chairman of Boki Local Government Council.
Additionally, he held roles such as Special Adviser on Community Relations and Secretary of the Anti-Deforestation Task Force, showcasing his commitment to his community and the environment.
