The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced plans to auction 15,325 litres of seized Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), popularly known as petrol, at ₦400 per litre. This initiative aims to address transportation challenges and ease public difficulties during the festive season.
Hussein Ejibunu, the National Coordinator for Operation Whirlwind, disclosed the details on Saturday during a press briefing held at the Customs Training College in Ikeja, Lagos. According to him, the petrol, valued at ₦27.5 million, was confiscated during operations targeting smuggling activities in Lagos and Ogun states.
Ejibunu explained that the auction has been approved by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi. The fuel will be sold to the public at ₦10,000 per 25-litre container. He assured that all necessary legal steps, including obtaining a court condemnation order, had been completed to ensure the process is legitimate.
“This operation, which began on May 27, 2024, has delivered positive results,” Ejibunu said. “The Comptroller-General has directed the operatives to sustain this momentum until the activities of economic saboteurs are completely eradicated in the country.”
He added, “In line with this directive, the CGC has approved the auctioning of the seized petrol to the public at a rate of ₦10,000 per 25 litres. This measure aims to alleviate transportation difficulties during the festive period.”
