Everton Football Club has confirmed the return of Scottish manager David Moyes following the dismissal of Sean Dyche. The announcement, made on Saturday, marks Moyes’ second stint at the Merseyside club, where he previously managed over 500 games between 2002 and 2013.
In a statement on the club’s official website, Everton praised Moyes, saying, “David is widely recognised as one of the Premier League’s most experienced and accomplished managers.”
Sean Dyche’s sacking came after a poor run of results. Everton has won just one of their last 11 Premier League matches, leaving the team precariously close to the relegation zone with only a one-point buffer. The situation worsened last weekend when Everton suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth, their eighth league loss of the season.
To steady the ship, the club has assigned former player Leighton Baines and captain Seamus Coleman to oversee the upcoming FA Cup clash against Peterborough on Thursday.
Dyche, who took charge in January 2023, managed to save Everton from relegation on the final day of that season. He also kept them in the league last year despite an eight-point deduction for financial breaches. However, a lack of goals—failing to score in eight of their last 10 games—has contributed to his dismissal.
The Toffees are currently in 16th place and face a tough battle to avoid another relegation scare. Fans will be eager to see if Moyes can reignite the team’s fortunes in his return.
