Defection: Peter Obi’s Media Handler, Aide in Talks With APC – Presidency

The recent surge of defections from opposition parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) seems to have reached the camp of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election.

Daniel Bwala, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Policy, spoke about this shift during a television interview. He revealed that some of Obi’s key aides are in discussions to join the APC.

Bwala, in his statement, specifically mentioned that one of Obi’s media handlers had already made the move to the APC, while a second handler was in talks with party leaders. Furthermore, one of Obi’s media aides has also shown interest in aligning with the ruling party.

“Governors are on their own coming into our party. What about the key managers of specific presidential candidates of the last election?” Bwala noted. He continued by using Obi’s team as an example: “Take, for example, Peter Obi, one of his handlers, is with us. The second handler is in talks with us. One of his media spokesmen is in talks with us.”

While discussing the reasons behind these defections, Bwala pointed out that the defections were not financially motivated. He emphasized that these individuals were joining the APC because they believe in the party’s direction.

“Why are they joining us? Nobody is giving anybody kobo, but because they realise, we are not perfect as a government, but our hearts are right, our head is correct, and we are creating a national consensus,” he stated.
