Defectors to APC Will Regret Betraying Kwankwasiyya – Kwankwaso Warns

The national leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed strong disapproval over the recent wave of defections from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly in Kano State.

The former governor of Kano made his remarks during a meeting with loyal supporters from Takai Local Government Area at his residence on Miller Road, Kano, on Friday.

Senator Kwankwaso addressed the supporters who had chosen not to follow the path of defectors. He accused the politicians who moved to the APC of turning their backs on the principles and people that brought them into office. The shift, he argued, was motivated not by service, but by self-interest.

The recent defection of Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, representing Kano South, along with several federal lawmakers, served as a key trigger for the former governor’s sharp words. According to him, those elected under the NNPP banner were trusted by the people, only to later betray that trust.

“Kano South is a lesson. Voters rejected superghetti, N200 and Atamfa (wrappers) and were patient to vote for the NNPP,” Kwankwaso noted, referring to attempts to sway voters with small gifts during the last election. He further said, “But those who won the election among us decided to abandon the masses and join those who do not have the masses at heart but are only after what they will get for themselves and their families.”

Kwankwaso criticized the defectors for abandoning the party that gave them the platform to rise, calling it “the highest level of betrayal.” He noted that leaving the NNPP after benefiting from its support amounts to political disloyalty.

Despite the disappointment, he praised those who have chosen to remain in the Kwankwasiyya fold or return to it. Their loyalty, he said, reflects the true spirit of the movement. Kwankwaso noted that these members had shown courage in resisting pressure and false promises from the opposition.

He warned that the defectors would eventually regret their actions, saying, “There is no worse political sin than leaving the party that gave you the opportunity and support.”
