Dele Farotimi Going Through Legal Terrorism, Held Hostage – Chidi Odinkalu

Prominent human rights advocate and former Chairman of Nigeria’s National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, has raised concerns over the legal struggles faced by Dele Farotimi, describing them as a form of “judicial and legal terrorism.”

Odinkalu made these remarks during a discussion on X Space hosted by activist Omoyele Sowore on Thursday.

Odinkalu alleged that Farotimi, a well-known human rights lawyer, is not undergoing a fair legal trial but is being held hostage under the guise of legal processes. According to him, Farotimi’s ordeal highlights a larger systemic issue where the judicial system is used to perpetuate injustice.

He said: “We have to end that, to end it let us train our thoughts on the judiciary and the law, all the other details can follow up. There so many Nigerians and Dele is one of those who are hostages of the law.

“Dele is not going through a legal trial; he is going through judicial terrorism and legal terrorism. This is hostage-taking using excuse of legality.

“We are going to make that case rigorously and vigorously across the board on behalf of Nigerians who are going through it at the moment.”
