Delta Speaker, 21 Lawmakers Dump PDP for APC

Twenty-two members of the Delta State House of Assembly, including the current Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, have officially left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaker Guwor confirmed the switch by reading out 22 letters of defection—one from each of the lawmakers involved, including himself. These letters were submitted ahead of the session and addressed to the House, making the lawmakers’ decisions formal and binding.

The legislators noted several reasons for their collective move. Chief among them is the internal crisis rocking the PDP at the national level, which they say has created deep uncertainty and confusion within the party.

The group also pointed to growing unrest within the party’s South-South zone, especially among its executive members. They described the current leadership as divided and ineffective in handling key party matters.

In their letters, the lawmakers stressed that the PDP has become unstable and unreliable for their political future. “We believe the APC provides a better platform for us to serve our people and to contribute meaningfully to the development of Delta State,” some of the letters read.
