Elon Musk has launched a strong attack on President Donald Trump’s proposed spending bill, describing it as a “disgusting abomination” in a post shared on his platform X earlier this week.
His comments came just days after stepping down from a temporary government position, where he led a task force focused on improving government efficiency.
Musk, who served as a special government employee for 130 days, did not hold back in his criticism. He warned that the bill, if passed, would cause serious damage to the U.S. economy by inflating the already massive federal deficit.
“It will massively increase the already gigantic budget deficit to $2.5 trillion (!!!) and burden America (sic) citizens with crushingly unsustainable debt,” he posted.
His remarks came as the bill continues to move through the U.S. Senate. Backed strongly by Trump, the legislation seeks to combine tax cuts with higher spending on defense, energy projects, and border control.
However, it also proposes major reductions in funding for programs like Medicaid and food assistance, drawing sharp reactions from across the political spectrum.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates that the bill could add $3.8 trillion to the national debt over the next ten years if enacted. Musk took issue with the size and scope of the spending, warning that such policies could deeply harm the financial future of the country.
“I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore. This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination,” Musk wrote. “Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”
Known for speaking his mind, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO noted the bill’s reliance on unnecessary spending and warned that future generations would be left to deal with the consequences.
