Dispatch Rider Arrested for Diverting Zamfara-Bound Medical Equipment Worth Millions

A dispatch rider, Matthew Adoche, has been taken into custody by the Zonal Anti-Crime Unit of Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, after he was accused of stealing a consignment of valuable medical equipment. The equipment was meant for delivery to a client in Zamfara State.

The arrest came after a formal complaint was filed by Dr. Ajefolakemi John, a medical professional from Iloromu Quarters in Ile-Ife, Osun State. According to the report, Dr. John had hired Adoche on April 15, 2025, to collect and deliver medical devices from locations in Ikotun and Ikeja, Lagos, to Idumota.

From there, the goods were to be forwarded to Zamfara. However, Adoche allegedly vanished with the equipment and turned off his mobile lines, making it impossible to reach him.

Following the complaint, the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, ordered the Zonal Anti-Crime Unit to begin a thorough investigation. The team traced Adoche to Ugbokpo, a community in Benue State, where he was eventually found and arrested.

Police Public Relations Officer for Zone 2, Ayuba Umma, shared details of the investigation and arrest. She noted that most of the stolen items were recovered during the operation. However, one key item—a Mindray DP 10 Laptop Ultrasound machine valued at ₦3.4 million—was already sold for only ₦1 million to a buyer identified as Chukwudi Eyinaya in the Mushin area of Lagos.

“Upon questioning, he confessed that having sold the ultrasound-laptop, he kept the remaining items with his sister in the Ihiala area of Anambra State before relocating to Adoka, Benue State where he was arrested,” Umma said.

The recovered items include a Mindray SV 300 Laptop Ventilator, a 3-part Hematology Analyzer, two patient monitors, two trolleys for the monitors, and a Zoncare 12-lead ECG machine.
