Don’t Bring Old PDP Habits Into APC – Ned Nwoko Tells Oborevwori

The Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has advised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State to abandon the “old habits” he practiced during his time in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as he begins his journey in the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following Governor Oborevwori’s defection to the ruling party, Nwoko, in a public statement directed at him, noted that it is important for the governor to make his move truly meaningful by leaving behind practices that contributed to the PDP’s troubles in Delta State.

While Nwoko praised Oborevwori for his bold decision to leave the PDP, he strongly advised him to not carry along the political behaviors that, according to him, led to the party’s gradual collapse in the state. “Leave behind the politics of survival and step into the politics of legacy,” Nwoko urged.

He further said, “No one pours new wine into old wineskins. Old habits, old politics, and the old deals that led to the gradual decline of the PDP in Delta must be left behind.”

Nwoko also touched on broader plans within the APC, noting that the party had already started preparations for constitutional amendments, including the creation of Anioma and New Delta states.

He pointed out, “Let me remind you, this agenda was declared a done deal by the party leadership long before your defection, a testament to the APC’s commitment to correcting historical imbalances and ending regional marginalisation.”

He encouraged Governor Oborevwori to lead efforts in driving these constitutional reforms, urging him to show clear commitment to fairness, inclusive governance, and sustainable development.

Nwoko stressed that the governor’s defection should not just be for show but must bring real change to the political landscape.

“Your defection must not be symbolic; it must be transformative. This is your opportunity to embrace a new sense of purpose and demonstrate renewed dedication to progressive governance, fairness, and inclusive development,” he said.

According to Nwoko, the creation of Anioma State would finally give proper recognition and institutional strength to the people of Delta North, acknowledging their long-standing efforts to gain equality with others in the region. He added that the proposed New Delta state would help address internal imbalances, empower neglected areas, bring governance closer to the citizens, and open new economic opportunities.
