Edo Decides 2024: INEC Reports 90.33% Results Uploaded to IREV

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has successfully uploaded 90.33% of the results from the recent governorship election in Edo State to its Result Viewing Portal, known as IREV. This marks a significant step in the electoral process, as it allows citizens and stakeholders to monitor the election outcomes in real-time.

As of now, results from 4,082 out of the 4,519 polling units across Edo State have been transmitted to the IREV. This shows a strong commitment from INEC to ensure transparency and accountability in the electoral process. The upload of these results is crucial, especially in an election where over 2.2 million permanent voter cards have been collected.

During an interview on Arise Television earlier today, Edo’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Anugbum Onuoha, provided reassurance about the smooth conduct of the electronic transmission of results. He stated, “We have trained the operators for the BVAS. They are set. BVAS is to accredit the voters and to know the total number of voters that will vote at that level and that polling unit.” He added that after voters cast their ballots, the results would be counted and uploaded to the IREV, ensuring a quick and efficient reporting process.

Candidates from various political parties are in contention for the governorship position, including Senator Monday Okpebholo from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asue Ighodalo from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Olumide Akpata from the Labour Party. The winner of this election will take over from the current governor, Godwin Obaseki, who is set to conclude his two-term tenure on November 11.
