Edo Governor Approves Promotion for 8,476 Teachers

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the release of promotion letters for 8,476 primary and junior secondary school teachers across the state.

In a statement on Friday, the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board, Onomen Briggs, noted that the decision was made to ensure that teachers receive the recognition they deserve for their dedication and service.

Briggs stated that the move is not only a reward for the teachers’ commitment but also a step toward improving the education sector in Edo State.

“It is the commitment of Governor Monday Okpebholo to ensure that every teacher receives the recognition he or she deserves. By directing the release of these promotion letters, Governor Okpebholo is not only acknowledging their hard work but also taking a firm step towards enhancing the overall quality of education in Edo State,” she said.

Briggs noted that Governor Okpebholo’s leadership has brought new energy into the basic education system. She explained that the government is working on comprehensive reforms aimed at prioritizing educators and improving learning conditions for students.

“This bold action underscores Governor Okpebholo’s dedication to transforming the education sector and ensuring that past administrative delays do not impede progress. As his administration continues to roll out reforms, this directive serves as a clear indicator of his resolve to address systemic challenges and deliver tangible results within his first 100 days in office,” she added.

The promotion covers teachers who were due for advancement between 2022 and January 2024. Briggs noted that this initiative is expected to boost the morale of teachers, many of whom have faced career stagnation due to delays in promotions.
