As the Edo State governorship election draws near, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is facing significant internal challenges. Senator Matthew Urohoghide, who serves as the Director-General of the APC campaign council in Edo State, has expressed deep frustration over the severe lack of financial support for the campaign.
According to sources within the campaign, the primary issue stems from internal discord among party leaders. Many APC leaders in Edo State have shown a reluctance to contribute to the campaign fund, largely due to the controversial selection of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the party’s governorship candidate.
This reluctance is driven by concerns over Okpebholo’s qualifications. Many within the party believe he is not the right choice for the role, resulting in a widespread unwillingness to back his candidacy financially.
Senator Urohoghide’s frustration was evident in recent discussions with campaign staff and stakeholders. He has openly lamented the financial constraints that have hampered the campaign’s ability to mobilize effectively and connect with voters. He was quoted as saying, “It’s extremely disheartening to see how our campaign is suffering due to the lack of support from our own party leaders. The financial shortfall is impacting our ability to run a robust campaign and reach out to the electorate effectively.”
