Edo: Let Sleeping Dogs Lie, Wike tells PDP’s Ighodalo

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has called on Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship candidate in the 2024 Edo State election, to accept the judgment of the Court of Appeal, which upheld the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo.

In a message released on Wednesday through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike noted that the court’s decision reflects the true will of the people. He said the legal process had taken its course and advised Ighodalo to put the interest of Edo State first by choosing peace over prolonged legal battles.

Wike, who is a well-known figure in the PDP, stated that elections are not only about winning but also about respecting institutions and decisions made by the judiciary. According to him, the court has spoken, and it is important for political actors to move forward for the sake of unity and development.

“I congratulate Governor Okpebholo on his victory at the Court of Appeal,” the statement said. “This ruling is a strong confirmation of the choice made by the people of Edo State during the election. I encourage the governor to continue with the good work he has started and to remain focused on delivering service to the people.”

Wike also noted that leadership comes with responsibility and urged Okpebholo to be inclusive in governance, saying that this is a moment to unite rather than divide.

He further called on members of the PDP in the state to respect the court’s judgment and support the efforts of the government to move the state forward.
