Eid-el-Kabir: FG Declares Friday, Monday Public Holidays for Sallah Celebration

The Federal Government has officially declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as nationwide public holidays in honor of this year’s Eid-el-Kabir, also known as Eid-ul-Adha.

In a public statement issued on Monday, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the decision on behalf of the Federal Government. The announcement is part of the preparations for one of the most important Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims around the world.

Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Muslims across Nigeria and beyond, recognizing their continued dedication to the values of Eid-el-Kabir. He called on the Muslim community to reflect on the life and faith of Prophet Ibrahim (Peace be upon Him), particularly his act of obedience and willingness to sacrifice.

“The minister assured Nigerians, that the people-oriented reforms and initiatives carried out, in furtherance of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, is to restore Nigeria on the path of progress.”

In his statement, the minister noted that Nigerians should not only observe the holidays as a time of celebration but also use the opportunity to pray for peace and unity in the country. He urged both Muslims and non-Muslims alike to commit to national harmony, encouraging all to remain hopeful about Nigeria’s future.

Tunji-Ojo noted that the current administration remains focused on ensuring that its plans and programs bring real change to the lives of everyday citizens. He described the declared holidays as a chance for Nigerians to celebrate, reflect, and come together for the nation’s betterment.

“While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the minister urged all Nigerians to join hands with the present administration in its efforts to restore the glory of Nigeria as a great nation,” the statement added.
