Eid-el-Kabir: NSCDC Deploys 28,000 Personnel Nationwide

Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has directed the deployment of more than 28,000 officers across the country to maintain peace and security during the Eid-el-Kabir holiday.

According to a statement released by the NSCDC National Public Relations Officer, CSC Afolabi Babawale, the large-scale operation is aimed at protecting lives, government assets, and public infrastructure before, during, and after the religious festival.

The personnel deployed will come from various specialised units of the Corps, including the Intelligence Directorate, the Special Female Squad, the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, the Quick Response Tactical Team, the Counter Terrorism Unit, the Operations Department, and the Special Weapons and Tactics Team.

Babawale noted that the NSCDC boss is determined to prevent any possible criminal attacks during the period, especially those targeting critical infrastructure or endangering public safety. “The Commandant General is committed to safeguarding all citizens and ensuring a peaceful celebration across the nation,” the statement read.

Dr Audi also noted the importance of tackling several security threats such as insurgency, kidnapping, illegal oil bunkering, banditry, vandalism, and farmer-herder conflicts. He urged officers to remain vigilant and proactive, adding that credible intelligence is key to preventing attacks and responding effectively to threats.

He further called on state commandants and local heads to strengthen their relationships with communities and improve intelligence collection at the grassroots level. According to him, the NSCDC must always work closely with locals to build trust and gather useful information that can help in stopping crimes before they occur.

“The strength of any operation lies in timely and accurate intelligence,” he stated.
