Ekiti Boosts Infrastructure to Woo Investors, Improve Livelihoods

Ekiti State is taking bold steps to attract investors and improve the lives of its residents through extensive infrastructure development. Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s administration is focusing on transforming the state into a hub for industrial growth and mechanized agriculture, with the aim of making Ekiti a prime destination for investors.

During a recent two-day inspection tour of completed and ongoing projects, the Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, emphasized the state’s commitment to transparency and the efficient use of public funds.

Olatunbosun stated, “We take you along to see directly where we are putting the taxpayers’ money, particularly in the areas of quality and choice of projects we have done which have impacted meaningfully on the lives of the people.” The tour was conducted to provide media executives and the public with firsthand insights into the projects and to clarify any misconceptions about the government’s initiatives.

The Commissioner for Works, Sola Adebayo, highlighted the state government’s strict policies on maintaining high standards and quality in all road construction and rehabilitation projects. Adebayo noted that contractors are required to adhere to specific guidelines, including the state’s stone-based policy, to ensure durable and timely completion of infrastructure projects.

In addition to physical infrastructure, the state is investing in human capital development. The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Adebimpe Aderiye, announced that the government is also focusing on empowering residents through educational support. Over 2,000 indigent students from the state’s 16 local government areas have received conditional cash transfers to assist with their education.

Key completed projects showcased during the tour include the Model Smart School in Ijan Ekiti, renovations at the Special School in Ido Ekiti, a new hostel at Command Secondary School in Isan Ekiti, and upgraded facilities at Government Technical College in Igbara Odo. Ongoing projects include several major road constructions, the Ado Ekiti Ring Road Phase One, a new Indoor Sports Hall, and the International Centre for Arts and Culture.
