Barcelona mounted a stunning fightback on Sunday night to secure a thrilling 4-3 win over Real Madrid in what could be a decisive step toward the La Liga title. The victory gives Barcelona a crucial seven-point lead over their rivals, with just three matches left to play this season.
Despite a hat-trick from Kylian Mbappe, Real Madrid were undone by a determined Barcelona side who found goals from Raphinha (twice), Lamine Yamal, and Eric Garcia to seal a fourth straight El Clasico win this campaign.
The match saw momentum swing wildly, with both sides having their moments, but it was the Catalan club who showed more grit and composure when it mattered most.
Barcelona came into the clash under pressure after their midweek Champions League exit to Inter Milan. Head coach Hansi Flick knew his team needed a response — and they delivered it with style and resolve.
“We’ve opened up an important gap, it was key to win this game after the Champions League (defeat), the fans have forgotten it and so have we, let’s enjoy this,” said young sensation Lamine Yamal.
Real Madrid started stronger, with Mbappe converting an early penalty after a foul by goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny. Though there were offside claims, the goal stood.
Just minutes later, Mbappe struck again, this time after a swift pass from Vinicius Junior, pushing Madrid 2-0 up. Barcelona looked stunned, but refused to fold.
Eric Garcia began the turnaround, heading home from a corner after a smart flick from Ferran Torres. Yamal then levelled the match with a fine curling strike, showing once again why he’s seen as the future of Spanish football.
Barcelona didn’t let up. Pedri picked out Raphinha with a sharp through-ball, and the Brazilian made no mistake, rifling the ball past Courtois to make it 3-2. He added another shortly after, stealing possession from Lucas Vazquez and finishing neatly after a one-two with Torres.
Though Mbappe completed his hat-trick following a well-timed run behind Barca’s defense, the goal wasn’t enough. Madrid had a few chances to equalize — including a late effort from substitute Victor Munoz — but couldn’t find a way past Szczesny again.
A late solo effort from Fermin Lopez, which would have sealed the game for Barcelona, was ruled out for handball. However, it made no difference in the end, as Madrid simply ran out of time.
