Justin Kluivert’s remarkable performance secured Bournemouth a commanding 4-1 victory against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Saturday.
The Dutch striker’s hat-trick was the centerpiece of a match that not only ended Newcastle’s nine-game winning streak but also propelled Bournemouth into the Premier League’s top six.
The Cherries, currently unbeaten in 11 matches, dominated the game from start to finish, leaving Newcastle struggling to keep up.
The Magpies were aiming for a historic 10th consecutive win across all competitions but found themselves outclassed by Bournemouth’s relentless pace and clinical finishing.
Kluivert, son of former Newcastle forward Patrick Kluivert, opened the scoring in the sixth minute after a well-placed cut-back from Antoine Semenyo.
Newcastle briefly equalized when Bruno Guimaraes headed in a corner from Lewis Hall. However, Kluivert restored Bournemouth’s lead before halftime with another precise strike, this time assisted by Dango Ouattara.
Despite Newcastle’s best efforts, they couldn’t find a way back into the game. Swedish striker Alexander Isak, who was aiming to extend his record-breaking streak of scoring in eight consecutive matches, was kept quiet by Bournemouth’s disciplined defense.
The visitors remained aggressive in the second half, with Ouattara and David Brooks coming close to adding to the scoreline. A VAR decision denied Ouattara a goal, and Brooks’s clever backheel was stopped by Martin Dubravka and the post.
In stoppage time, Kluivert completed his hat-trick with a spectacular shot from outside the box, marking his second treble of the season. Milos Kerkez sealed the victory with a powerful fourth goal, further solidifying Bournemouth’s position in the league standings.
