Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency (ANIF), has been arrested for allegedly creating over 400 videos involving intimate encounters with wives and family members of high-ranking officials.
Engonga, who is 54 years old and an economist by profession, reportedly filmed these acts with several prominent married women, leading to public outrage and intense scrutiny.
The scandal came to light during an unexpected search of Engonga’s office and home by ANIF authorities, who were initially investigating him for financial misconduct.
During the search, officials discovered numerous CDs containing footage of intimate encounters with multiple women, many of whom are connected to influential figures in Equatorial Guinea.
Among those implicated in the recordings are family members of prominent political leaders, including the sister of the country’s president, the wife of the Director General of Police, and spouses of several ministers.
According to local reports, the recordings, which reportedly took place in Engonga’s private office and other locations, were made with the consent of the women involved. Some footage even shows encounters near national symbols, adding to the gravity of the scandal.
In response to the footage going viral on social media, government authorities moved swiftly, enacting disciplinary measures aimed at restoring public trust.
The Attorney General of Equatorial Guinea, Nzang Nguema, commented on the matter, stressing that, although the videos imply consent, the country’s laws still prioritize victim safety and public health.
“The possibility of a contagious disease being spread through these sexual interactions makes the situation even more critical,” he said. Nguema highlighted the need for a safe environment where individuals can report incidents of abuse without fear.
In a statement on social media, Vice President Nguema Mangue reaffirmed the country’s commitment to upholding ethical standards, noting that any government official involved in similar misconduct would face severe consequences.
The Vice President emphasized, “Ethics and respect are fundamental in our Administration,” underscoring the government’s zero-tolerance stance on behavior that undermines public service integrity.
