Even If Tinubu Appoints His Son as INEC Chairman, He’ll Lose in 2027 – Ex-Minister

A former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, says the President Bola Tinubu-led administration will be defeated in the 2027 general elections.

Dalung, while speaking during a recent interview on News Central, noted that the 2027 elections will no longer be a typical political contest, but rather a fight between ordinary Nigerians and the government currently in power. He strongly believes President Tinubu will lose the next election, even under extreme conditions where he appoints his son to head the country’s electoral commission.

“Like I promised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, even if the 36 state governors of Nigeria defect to the APC and he appoints Seyi Tinubu as the chairman of INEC and maybe appoints his wife as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, they will be defeated in 2027,” Dalung said.

According to him, the economic hardship, hunger, and poverty being experienced by citizens have created deep frustration across the country. He accused the Tinubu government of using these problems against its people. Dalung said it is this suffering that will drive Nigerians to vote differently in the next general election.

He also noted that the only way to challenge the ruling party successfully is for all opposition forces to unite. Dalung believes that the newly formed African Democratic Congress coalition could provide a platform for this united front. He urged politicians who want real change to join this alliance and work together for a better future.

“The government has weaponized poverty, hunger and hardship,” he said. “The only option we have now is to align with the coalition movement to reposition ourselves and confront the government in 2027.”

Dalung believes that the current political system has failed the people, and a shift in leadership is urgently needed. He pointed out that political dominance by one party, no matter how strong, cannot stop a determined population from voting for change when they are pushed to the edge.

He also warned Nigerians to prepare themselves ahead of the 2027 elections, saying the government has shown by its actions that it is not on the side of the people.

“Nigerians should buckle for 2027, because the battle line has been drawn by the government of President Tinubu, which has declared war against the Nigerian people,” he said.
