Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Policy, has dismissed all his past criticisms of President Bola Tinubu and his administration, saying they are now irrelevant.
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Bwala admitted that his previous negative remarks about Tinubu were made when he was a member of the opposition. He explained that as a politician, his role at the time was to challenge the government in power. However, since joining the administration, his perspective has shifted.
Bwala’s political journey has seen several changes. Before the 2023 presidential election, he was a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, he left the party after it fielded two Muslim candidates—Bola Tinubu and Kashim Shettima—for the presidency and vice presidency. Following his exit from APC, he joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and became the spokesperson for Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign.
During the election period, Bwala was a strong critic of Tinubu. He once described Tinubu’s candidacy as a joke, comparing it to a night of a thousand laughs.
After the election, he continued to oppose Tinubu’s presidency, questioning its legitimacy and accusing the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of election manipulation. He even referred to Tinubu as a “president-select” rather than an elected leader.
However, Bwala’s stance has changed since he was appointed as a media aide in Tinubu’s administration. When asked during the interview if he still stood by his past criticisms, he responded, “They are not relevant.”
He further stated, “I criticised Tinubu’s election and administration in the past because I was in the opposition. The opposition’s work is to criticise the sitting government and hold them accountable. My views changed after I met the President, and he saw a need to appoint me.”
