Retired General Maharazu Tsiga, a former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has regained his freedom after spending 22 days in captivity.
A source confirmed on Friday night that Tsiga had been released and was receiving medical care at an undisclosed hospital. The decision to keep his location confidential is reportedly due to security concerns.
Tsiga was kidnapped on February 6, 2025, from his residence in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State. The attack, carried out by a group of armed men, left two people injured. Reports indicate that one of the kidnappers was mistakenly shot dead by his fellow gang members during the incident.
The armed group, allegedly led by a notorious bandit kingpin known as Babaro, had initially demanded a ransom of N250 million for Tsiga’s release. However, it remains unclear whether any ransom was paid before he was freed.
