The Economic & Financial Crimes Commission has named the immediate past Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele as the main beneficiary and owner of the 753 duplexes and apartments it seized in Lokogoma, Abuja.
According to a court order granting a forfeiture on the said properties, notice was given to any interested parties to appear before the court within 14 days last month.
The EFCC made the seizure and forfeiture public yesterday.
According to the EFCC Affidavit “the properties sought to be forfeited are reasonably suspected to have been acquired and or developed with the proceeds of unlawful activities.”
The address and the size of the property is given by the EFCC as “PLOT 109, CAD ZONE C09, LOKOGOMA DISTRICT, ABUJA: MEASURING 150,462.86 Sqm.”
The EFCC also averred in the court papers that;
“That in the cause of this investigation, it was revealed that the erstwhile CBN governor negotiates kickbacks in return for allocation of Foreign Exchange to some companies who were in desperate need of foreign exchange for their lawful and legitimate businesses.”
Equally names of some other CBN officials were mentioned such as the head of Litigation.
According to the papers, ” upon investigation, it was revealed that one Ifeanyi Omeke, a Deputy General Manager and Head, Litigation of Zenith Bank, Plc worked closely with Godwin Emefiele and ran several errands for him which included purchase and perfection of title documents for several properties located in highbrow areas of Lagos and Abuja.”
