Father Sets Wife, Children Ablaze Over Alleged Infidelity

The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Abia State branch, has condemned a shocking and heartbreaking incident involving a man who allegedly set his wife and three children on fire in Obingwa Local Government Area, Abia State.

The incident reportedly took place in the early hours of Saturday, between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., in Onicha Ngwa community. The man, identified as 40-year-old Udochi Amala from Amapu Ihe village in Osisioma LGA, allegedly poured fuel on his family and lit a match, blaming suspicions of his wife’s unfaithfulness.

The horrific event resulted in the death of one of the couple’s daughters, who reportedly succumbed to severe burns at the scene. The wife and two other children were rushed to a hospital where they battled for their lives. However, an unconfirmed source later reported that the mother and the remaining two children died on Monday from complications sustained during the fire.

Mr. Amala, who was also injured in the blaze, allegedly attempted to escape after the act but was later caught by community members. In a statement reportedly made after his arrest, he said, “I have an issue with my wife, and I did not know that it would get to this extent. I am tired of this life.” He also allegedly admitted he never caught his wife with another man.

The Abia State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesperson, DSP Maureen Chinaka. “Yes, the Police are aware. Investigation is ongoing,” she stated.
