FCT Minister Wike Revokes Land of Govs Uzodimma, Diri, Speaker Abbas, 565 others

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has officially revoked the land allocations of 568 individuals, including several high-profile government officials.

Among those affected are Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen.

This action, announced through a statement by the minister’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, stems from the failure of the affected allottees to meet their Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) payment obligations within the stipulated deadlines.

According to the statement, the withdrawal follows the expiration of an extended two-week grace period granted to defaulters.

In October 2024, a total of 3,273 land allottees in the FCT were given a two-week window to settle their outstanding C-of-O bills. Despite the initial deadline and an additional grace period that ended on January 15, 2025, 568 allottees failed to comply, leading to the cancellation of their Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O).

Those affected are the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President (Office of the Vice President), Ibrahim Hadejia; former governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, Senate Leader; Opeyemi Bamidele, Senate Minority Leader; Abba Moro, Minister of State for Labour and Employment; Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, Minister of State for Industry Trade and Investment; John Eno, Chairperson/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM); Abike Dabiri-Erewa; late Sports Minister Bala Kaoje; and Regina Akume, wife of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
