The Joint Union Action Committee of the Federal Capital Territory Administration has declared that workers will embark on a three-day demonstration beginning Monday, June 30, and lasting until Wednesday, July 2, 2025, over what it calls the continued silence of the FCT Minister on critical matters affecting their well-being.
This decision was made public in a strong statement released by JUAC President, Rifkatu Iortyer, on Thursday, titled “PROTEST!!! PROTEST!!! PROTEST!!!” In the statement, she directed all union members and affiliate groups within the FCTA to come together and converge daily at the Minister’s Main Gate in Area 11, Garki, Abuja, by 7:00 am throughout the protest period.
According to Iortyer, the demonstration is being held due to “the blatant refusal of the FCT Minister to address… salient issues affecting staff.”
JUAC noted that staff have not received any promotions since 2023, and there are still ongoing problems in how salaries are managed. Some workers have also not received their lawful payments and allowances. These long-standing complaints, according to the union, have gone without response from the administration.
Additional concerns were listed in the statement, including a call for a complete change in some leadership roles within the FCTA. The union is also pushing for the end of deductions they describe as unfair.
“The Chairman FCT Civil Service Commission must go. We say no to overseeing directors’ position,” Iortyer declared,
Other demands include, “Domestication of IPPIS, inaccessibility of the salary portal to salary desk officers, no overhead since December 2024, stop our NHF deduction, non-payment of five months wage awards/health workers hazard allowance arrears, no training and retraining of FCTA staff, out-of-school FCTA primary school pupils, and non-payment of AEPB enforcement squad. All members of staff are advised to gather at the Minister’s main gate Area 11 to drive home their demands,” the statement added.
