Femi Branch Faces Assault, Debt Allegations

Veteran Nigerian actor Femi Branch, is currently at the center of two major controversies. One involves an alleged physical attack on a film set, while the other concerns an unpaid debt that dates back over a decade.

The incident on set reportedly occurred on June 18, 2025, when Branch was accused of slapping the first Assistant Director (AD) during a production shoot. Following the incident, Branch is said to have apologized to both the AD and the entire crew.

Despite this, many members of the film crew community were not satisfied with the apology and released a public statement that quickly spread across social media.

The statement read: “On 18 June 2025, during a production shoot, an actor, Femi Branch, physically assaulted the first Assistant Director on set. He slapped the first AD in the presence of witnesses, violating not only professional boundaries but basic human decency. Under pressure, an assurance of apology was given. Filming resumed under the 1st AD’s instruction, and the actor later apologised to the 1st AD and the entire crew. We commend the entire production crew for standing firmly against violence and upholding respect and integrity on set.”

A video related to the event also went viral online, showing an angry Femi Branch being blocked by some crew members from leaving the scene. In the clip, Branch is heard asking the director, “Did you bring me here to embarrass me?”

While this drama unfolded, another issue was brought to light by a Twitter user named Pastor Timilehin. He claimed that Branch owes his father, Tolulope Komolafe, a total of N9.7 million. According to Timilehin, the actor borrowed N1 million back in 2011, agreeing to pay a monthly interest of N50,000. The interest has since accumulated to almost N9.5 million.

Timilehin posted: “Dear @femibranch you borrowed the sum of 1 million Naira from Mr Akin Tolulope Komolafe (My Dad), since 2011 with interest of 50,000 per month. You have refused to pay to date. The accumulated sum is now 9.7 million. My dad helped you out when you needed it most. Now that everything has worked out for you, you have refused to pay him his money, despite all the efforts he has made to recover it. I just want to let you know one thing, you must pay that loan. If my dad fails to get it from you, I will get it from you or your children.”

Along with the post, Timilehin shared a letter allegedly written by Femi Branch in December 2011, in which Branch reportedly requested the loan to fund his movie Onile.
