The Federal Government has approved a total of N452 billion for the construction and rehabilitation of 14 major roads across different states. This funding is part of the Renewed Hope Administration’s plan to improve infrastructure and enhance road networks across the country.
The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, made this known after the 23rd Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting at Aso Rock Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday. He stated that the projects would help boost connectivity and economic activities in various regions by speeding up road repairs and new constructions.
One of the major projects included in the approval is the Agaie-Katcha-Baro Road in Niger State, which has been awarded to Messrs GR Building Construction Limited at a cost of N22 billion. This road is expected to improve transportation in the state, especially for businesses and travelers.
In Cross River State, the government has set aside N26.335 billion for the rehabilitation of the Odukpani Junction and the central section of the Calabar–Ikom–Ogoja Road. The contract for this project has been awarded to Samatech.
Other significant road projects include the Ajaokuta-Ajibo/Iyana-Mosa Road in Ogun State, valued at N10.89 billion, and the Inoma-Iyaka-Abaji section of the Ibaji-Odulu-Ajibu Road in Anambra State, which will cost N9.33 billion. More approvals include the N33.42 billion for the first phase of the Kaduna-Jos Road, N11.81 billion for the Yola-Fufure Road, and N13 billion for the Ijebu-Ibutita-Ebe Road in Ogun State.
Umahi also noted that the government has allocated N30 billion to complete the Lagos-bound section of the Lagos-Ibadan Road. He assured that this additional funding would help finalize the long-awaited project, making travel smoother for commuters.
Furthermore, the government approved an N7 billion rescoping plan for the AK Bypass, which will be executed by Ghitto Construction Limited.
Apart from roads, the FEC has also given approval for several water infrastructure projects aimed at improving water supply in Abuja and nearby areas.
