FG Begins Payment of ₦44,000 Arrears to Ex-Corps Members Following Minimum Wage Adjustment

Corps members who completed their national service before the new minimum wage allowance took effect have started receiving ₦44,000 in arrears from the Federal Government.

This development marks the government’s response to its earlier commitment to adjust the monthly allowances of former NYSC members, following the nationwide increase in the minimum wage.

The Ministry of Youth Development confirmed that payments are currently being made in batches. The arrears cover the difference between the previous ₦33,000 monthly allowance and the revised ₦77,000 now allocated to current corps members. The payment is specifically targeted at those who served before the allowance increment was implemented.

Several former corps members took to social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) to share updates and screenshots of their credit alerts. The excitement and gratitude among recipients were evident, with many expressing surprise and appreciation for what they described as a rare instance of follow-through by the government.

One former corps member, using the handle @Kingpin_black1, posted: “Thank you NYSC. Thank you President Tinubu. Nigeria will be great again.” Another user, @pharmacist_shezzy, wrote: “44k don land. NYSC no carry last. God bless Nigeria.” Similarly, @ifeoluwa_X commented: “Just got my alert. I almost deleted my NYSC account. Thank you FG.”

The move has drawn a wave of positive reactions online, particularly among young Nigerians. Many noted that this payment, although delayed, restores some trust in government-led youth support programs.

Officials from the NYSC have also acknowledged the ongoing process and urged patience from those who are yet to receive the credit alert. They explained that due to the volume of former corps members, disbursement is being handled in phases to ensure accurate delivery.

A representative from the NYSC noted, “This payment is a reflection of the administration’s promise to recognize the sacrifices made by Nigerian youths during their national service year.”
