The Federal Government has handed over 40 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered vehicles to the Kwara State government as part of efforts to support cleaner energy and ease transportation challenges.
The ceremony took place in Ilorin on Tuesday, with Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq receiving the vehicles, which include 20 18-seater shuttle buses and 20 tricycles.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leadership of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI). He acknowledged the gesture as a significant step towards alleviating the effects of the removal of fuel subsidies on residents.
Speaking at the event, he noted that the vehicles would be integrated into Kwara State’s public transport system and made available to citizens at subsidized rates to ensure affordability.
Mr. Toyin Zubair, the Executive Vice Chairman of PCNGI, praised Kwara State for adopting the initiative, emphasizing its alignment with the federal government’s vision for cleaner energy solutions. He added, “The federal government aims to convert one million vehicles from petrol to compressed natural gas (CNG) as part of its cleaner energy drive.”
