FG Increases Passport Fees, New Cost Revealed

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a significant increase in passport fees, with the new charges set to take effect on September 1, 2024. This decision was made public by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) through a statement issued on Wednesday by its spokesman, Kenneth Udo, on the NIS official X (formerly Twitter) handle.

According to the statement, the new fees are part of a broader effort to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport. The NIS explained that the price hike would help ensure that the passport maintains its high standards in terms of production and security.

“As part of its efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport, the Federal Government has approved an upward review of the fees for the passport, effective from September 1, 2024,” Udo said in the announcement.

Under the revised fee structure, the 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity, which was previously priced at N35,000, will now cost N50,000. Additionally, the 64-page passport booklet, which has a ten-year validity, will increase from N70,000 to N100,000.

The NIS acknowledged that this price adjustment may cause inconvenience to applicants but assured the public of its ongoing commitment to providing transparent and high-quality service. In its statement, the NIS emphasized its dedication to ensuring that Nigerians receive reliable service, despite the increase in fees.
