The Federal Government has placed a N5 million bounty on anyone who provides information leading to the capture of seven inmates who recently escaped from the Medium Custodial Centre in Ilesa, Osun State.
This was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), Deputy Controller of Corrections Abubakar Umar, in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja.
According to DCC Umar, the reward is intended to encourage the public to assist security agencies in tracking down the fugitives.
He said, “In order to encourage public participation, the Nigerian Correctional Service wishes to inform the general public that a reward of N5 million is being offered to anyone who provides useful information that leads to the recapture of the fleeing inmates from the Medium Custodial Centre, Ilesha, Osun State.”
The escape took place on Tuesday, and since then, security forces have intensified efforts to find the inmates. The NCoS urges citizens to cooperate by reporting any details about the escapees’ whereabouts to the nearest security agencies or through the official communication channels provided.
The statement notes that all information received will be handled confidentially to protect the identity of informants.
The Nigerian Correctional Service has set up multiple contacts for the public to send tips, including an email address, complaint response desk, and phone numbers. These are complaintresponsedesk@corrections.gov.ng, info@corrections.gov.ng, and the lines 07087086005, 09060004598, and 08075050006.
