FG to Begin Repairs on Collapsed Taraba Bridge Next Week

The Federal Government has announced that rehabilitation work on the collapsed Namnai Bridge in Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State will officially begin next week.

The collapse of the bridge was caused by a devastating flood on Wednesday, which also washed away the temporary structure that had been serving as a vital route for travelers moving from Taraba North to other parts of the country. The situation has left commuters and residents stranded, causing disruptions to transportation and economic activities in the area.

On Thursday, the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari, visited the site to assess the damage and express sympathy for those affected. He noted that even before the recent collapse, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) had already sent engineers to the location and was only waiting for official clearance to start work.

Maigari assured that the Federal Government understands the urgency of the situation and is taking immediate steps to restore the bridge.

“This location requires immediate attention, and we will take all necessary steps to resolve the problem,” Maigari said.

He also noted that the Namnai Bridge is just one of 12 bridges in the North East region that have been identified for urgent repairs.

“Within a week, work will begin because the most important thing is to find a solution quickly, and the Federal Government is fully committed to this,” he added.

Maigari also stated that the Ministry of Regional Development will continue working closely with the Taraba State Government to improve infrastructure across the region.

Additionally, he mentioned that the state government has requested federal assistance for the rehabilitation of the Mayokam, Suntai, and Bantaje bridges, along with the newly approved Akwana Road project.
