Fire Guts Popular Hotel in Delta, Destroys Properties Worth Millions

A massive fire has broken out at Ibis Hotel along Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State. The fire, which started on Thursday, has destroyed properties worth millions of naira, including several vehicles.

As of the time of this report, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown. Witnesses say the flames spread rapidly, consuming parts of the building and causing panic among guests and staff. Some guests were seen rushing out with their belongings, while others struggled to escape the thick smoke and heat.

A source at the scene told DAILY POST that the fire seemed to have started from one section of the hotel before spreading to other areas. “People were shouting and running everywhere. Some managed to grab their bags, while others just ran out with nothing,” the source said.

There are growing concerns that the fire could extend to nearby businesses if it is not contained quickly. Shops and offices located along Airport Road are at risk, with business owners anxiously watching the situation unfold.

Shockingly, officials of the fire service were not seen at the time of the report, leaving hotel staff and customers to battle the flames on their own. Some individuals tried using buckets of water and fire extinguishers to put out the fire, but their efforts were not enough to control the raging inferno.

An eyewitness expressed frustration over the absence of emergency responders. “We called the fire service several times, but no one has shown up. If help doesn’t come soon, this fire might spread even further,” he said.

The extent of the damage is yet to be fully determined, but initial reports suggest that millions of naira worth of property, including vehicles, have been lost. Authorities are yet to release an official statement on the incident.
