Fire Guts Warehouse in Anambra, Goods Worth Millions Destroyed

A devastating fire broke out late Saturday at a warehouse located in Tabansi Estate, along Limca Road, opposite Crunches, in the Nkpor area of Idemili North Local Government of Anambra State. The blaze destroyed goods and property valued at several millions of naira, sparking panic among nearby residents.

Eyewitnesses reported that the fire originated in a corner of the building and quickly spread, engulfing the structure in thick flames. Residents and passers-by rushed to the scene in an attempt to contain the fire before the Anambra State Fire Service arrived.

Okey, a local resident, told PUNCH: “The cause of the fire is still unknown, but we suspect it could be as a result of excessive heat, as the weather has been extremely hot. We suddenly observed a thick smoke coming out from a corner of the building, and before we knew what was happening, it started increasing and burning fast.”

Firefighters battled for hours to extinguish the inferno, managing to prevent its spread to neighboring buildings. However, the fire reignited in the early hours of Sunday, prompting the fire service to redeploy additional personnel and equipment.

The Anambra State Fire Chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, confirmed the incident in a statement, urging the public to prioritize fire safety. “The fire affected a commercial warehouse, but there was no loss of life. The general public is advised to remain fire conscious and stay safe,” he stated.
